For my third concentration piece, I went ahead and chose to do my friend Ri. Originally just a coworker, Ri is one of my closest friends I have to me. They have a strong passion for music and choral directing. So to allow this piece to fully represent Ri, I included various different music elements throughout.
I chose to originally complete the piece in acrylic paint. Over time, however, I began brainstorming different ideas regarding music sheets and notes. I ended up taking sheet music from one of Ri's favorite songs and compiling them into scraps and a mound. Afterwards, I added paint over the scrap paper to give it a sense of depth, especially around Ri and in between the individual scraps of paper. I also brought in blank sheet music and added colorful hand drawn musical note elements. My biggest struggle definitely came from deciding what to add and include onto the background. I went through a few different ideas before deciding on a mixture of paint and scrapbook style elements. I overcame this struggle by testing different ideas and thinking about what would help the piece stand out. In the end, I came out with a piece that both represents Ri as a person and allowed my creativity to shine through.
