For my second concentration I went with my friend Megan. I've known Megan since 7th grade and she's very close to me and one of the people I can be myself around. When doing her piece, I knew I had to grasp different elements that made her unique and made her who she is. She really enjoys nature so I chose a picture of her holding a sunflower. I knew it captured her in a way that a normal picture wouldn't do justice.
For background elements, I knew I had to include things that represented her. She is a hardcore animal advocate so I am including pawprints. She also heavily enjoyed Cross Country, so adding in the apex logo and elements of her experience there is something I had to do as well. For the medium, I am going for digital because I know I can capture her features really well, I can get the small details that are harder to achieve with painting and I can mess with different color schemes and different layouts to create a good composition that I am happy with. With this piece I am trying to achieve a nostalgic Polaroid vibe with the boarder, but also allowing things to overlap.

To start off my concentration, I went with my friend Autumn. We are close and she is very important to me. She is one of the few people in my life I can open up entirely to and will never feel judged for what I am going through or dealing with. I wanted to include her in my concentration to bring light to her and things that make her who she is.
Autumn enjoys a large range of activities, including art, coffee, animals and many more. After thinking about how I wanted to design my piece, I ended up deciding to incorporate something with maps, since she loves to go hiking on trails and wants to eventually hike on many more in her life. So after I decided on what I wanted to do with the piece, I had to come up with a medium. I decided to go outside of my box and go with pen and ink. I didn't actually have too many issues when working on this piece, for some reason it was really natural to me to work with pen. I love being able to add layers of pen and textures, because it can really make a piece pop and stand out. With the use of cross hatching and general layers of pen, I was able to create value in my piece. |
