For my piece I got my idea from the seasonal ceramic cups that Starbucks has. They always have cool Christmas ones and I thought it would be interesting to make an idea that falls into the autumn and Halloween theme, so I designed a pumpkin patch/ starry sky theme for my cup.
So far for my process, I've used newsprint and decided on a shape I would need. In this case I needed a curved rectangle to make sure the cup turns out the way I want. I've used multiple tools to smooth out the cup and add a bottom. So far I still have a little bit more to shape and smooth, but then it's off to painting the bottom black later. I'll be doing for a Orange and white top coat to make the piece resemble the fall theme a little more.

I think the project is coming along nicely thus far! My group was in charge of making the base of the tree and its been so much fun so far and we came across an idea that we liked in order to make it stable. The other groups were working on foliage, and small details, as well as bark. Now we're all working on it together.
The biggest challenge we have to overcome was getting the cardboard cut. It was taking us forever to get it cut with box cutters so we pulled out the power saw and went to work. It worked so much easier and we were able to get the form cut out with ease. Artist Name: Karen Anderson Location: Areas throughout Atlanta Materials range depending on the style of door that the artist is going for Something Interesting: "For each new door Anderson hosts a miniature ribbon-cutting ceremony, a way to present the work to the public, while also connecting community members and fans of the miniature works. “I love the potential for art to build community,” Artist Website: https://tinydoorsatl.com/ I think this is very inspiring because, she wants the art community to grow and come together. The "ribbon cutting ceremonies" really bring everyone together in a way that overcomes other obstacles. I also really love the designs she uses and the way she makes each 6-inch door represent something different. There are a total of 12 of these doors throughout Atlanta and each one of them carries a different meaning behind them. Its important to show others how important art is and that they should be able to express themselves publicly. |
